How To Dress In Vancouver Nightclubs

By Matt Coolen

To get into a Vancouver nightclub doesn't require a whole lot more then showing up and not looking like a slob.

The biggest no - no is that at pretty much every club in the city you absolutely can have no Ed Hardy or Chistian Audigier shirts, actually most clubs will turn you away for wearing anything glittery with skulls, and they will probably make fun of you in the process. Also if you have a lot of tattoos and usually wear a ton of gold, cover them up and leave the Mr. T chain at home, otherwise the people at the club will automatically think you are in a gang and they will have no choice but to not let you in.

The last thing that you want to make sure is that one of your douchey friends didn't convince you it is cool to pop the collar on your Lacoste (see what I think about that here) if so you will want to do two things here, fix your damn shirt, then punch your friend in the throat for trying to make you look stupid.

The normal wear in the city is a dress shirt, jeans and shoes. Sneakers won't cut it anywhere except The Roxy, the same goes for baseball caps. Besides, if you are wearing sneakers and a hat out to the club, you better be either famous or very well know and good looking, otherwise, grow up.

I try to encourage a little sharper of an image then the normal wear. A lot of guys will wear a black suit with an unbuttoned white or similar shirt, fair enough for not wanting to wear a tie out all night, but make the white shirt something a little brighter, and throw in a matching pocket square and socks. You won't regret it.

Girls can generally get away with anything, although in Vancouver at the more popular clubs, will wear heels with a dress that is somewhere around 7 or 8 out of 10 on the skimpy meter. If you don't know what that means, wear jeans, and unless your super hot, I'll see you outside in the line... On my way in.
