Coast Seafood Restaurant is a monster. It sits at 350, filled to capacity everyday of the week seats. That's right, you would be very fortunate to walk in off the street and sit down, and even luckier to get a reservation at Coast on the weekend.

The space itself is gorgeous. When you step in it's exactly like you have left Vancouver and fell into San Francisco. After making your way through the patio and in the front entrance the first thing you see is the oyster bar. A circular bed of ice covered in fresh shellfish with a giant illuminated tower of alcohol shooting straight out of the center.

The seafood, especially the oysters, are amazingly fresh. I had Kusshi Oysters the day before at another reputable seafood restaurant in Vancouver and they were great, but having them at Coast the following day was like having them for the first time.

The sushi rolls are on a level unheard of in most Vancouver restaurants. I've sat in Coast with people from Asia and as skeptical as they were of trying the sushi, I quote "This sushi is actually really, really good". They were much more than pleasantly surprised. The King Crab Tempura Roll is fantastic, as is their version of the Mango California Roll.

The fish dishes themselves are outstanding. The Sablefish melts like butter in your mouth, and the Mahi Mahi is the most flavorful I've ever encountered.

One thing you should remember is no matter if your in for a quick lunch or a big dinner, make your reservation as far in advance as possible or you might get stuck. But if you do end up with a seat at Coast, don't leave without a Cheesecake lollipop (covered in pop rocks).
